Add Dollars & Excitement with
Hole-in-One Insurance & Other Contest Coverage

by Jason Morrone,
Senior Tournament Coach—TournEase, Inc.

Are you looking to boost the energy level at your next golf event?  Want to raise additional funds in the process?  Insurance backed contests are a great way to do both.

Hole-in-One, Million Dollar Shot, and Putt for Dough contests are A LOT of fun and much less expensive than most tournament directors assume.  Not only can they bring real excitement to golf tournaments of any size, these contests also provide additional revenue generating sponsorship opportunities and help draw more golfers to your event!  Best of all, you can offer huge prizes without assuming any risk.  Your financial obligation is limited to the cost of the premium.

Hole-in-one contests are the most popular.  TournEase offers HIO insurance that starts at $200.  The price is calculated based on three factors - length of the shot, number of golfers and the value of the grand prize.  You can choose pretty much anything to be the grand prize, but the big three are cash, cars and trips.  The cost of this contest coverage includes supplementary prizes, which range from fabulous trips to golf clubs, for up-to three additional par 3 holes and four full color prize signs branded with a full color sponsor logo and/or text.

Increasing in popularity are the Million Dollar Shot and Putt for Dough contests.  TournEase offers both.  One shot for a million dollars from the distance of 180 yards is only $170 and a 60 foot putt for $10,000 is only $250!  Each contest includes a full color 24” x 48” sign branded with a sponsor logo.  Simply set up the shot or putt and have everyone gather around to cheers on the contestant as he or she takes a shot at winning big!  Trust me; these event day activities will be the highlight of your tournament.

In addition to adding excitement to your tournament these insurance backed contests offer high visibility sponsorships with real value.  Purchasing two contest packages can cost as little as $370 and provide up-to five sponsorship opportunities.  Done right, tournaments can easily recoup the cost of coverage five times over.

And consider how powerful these contests are as a marketing tool!  Our experience shows that contests with big prizes can increase your player registration by up-to 30 percent!  Promoting the chance to win a car or a million dollars is sure to make your event stand out from the crowd.

That’s a little break down of the value insurance backed contests can bring to your golf event.  Try enhancing your next tournament or outing with one of these great event day activities, you’ll be pleased with the results.

TournEase Tip:Selecting a Tournament Format

There are several golf tournament formats out there, don’t be afraid to try something a little different.  A Scramble is probably the most-common format for teams, but other options such as a Shamble, Step Away, Best Ball or other team formats may attract many new recruits and mix things up a bit.  Remember to select a format that keeps play under 5 ½ hours.
